Even the Brits say it is, for a lot less frogskins than Porsche 911, Jaguar F Type, and Audi R-8. Ha! Take that world.

YouTube,
"how can they only get 460hp from 6.2l. Americans are so stupid they are still using old fashioned push rods and leaf springs like a stage coach. They are not modern like us Europeans. It doesn't have steering feel and it can't go around a corner like every dumb american car"

Don't worry. These brits will find a reason to hate it. My predicted top 3?
1) Yeah, it's okay compared to other vettes, but thats only because of how crummy those were! Would you really take it over [Insert european car waaaaaaay out of it's price range here]?
2) Leaf springs? Pushrods? GTFO (Hammond: But it turned in an incredible time at the power la-) STFU, HAMMOND YOU'RE OFF THE SHOW
3) It's not a Ferrari, no matter how bad it wants to be one. [Presses that one spot on the back he always presses]

I foresee a comparison to the F12 Berlinetta.

Pushrods still work. 9500 RPM easily when racing. All aluminum V8. Their suspension seems to work OK. You have to remember who wrote the piece. Those dickheads who think anything not British is crap. Sorry for the hurt on Top Gear, I am not a fan of Clarkson.
Besides that, If you sunk the difference in money into the Stingray compared to the competitors, you would have damn near a race car.

The only issue they have came from Clarkson, which was that it's a bit brash to be driving around Britain.
It is a bit brash.
It's also bloody good. Definitely a world-class car.

yup, just children dude. Plus, Bentley uses push rods on the V8's :]

:( that 460hp 6.2L engine gets better fuel efficiency than my 170hp 2.0L engine, lol.

I find it a bit unfair how the put the Vette against the 911 in the power segment. The 911 isn't about straight line speed, its about cornering and braking more than anything. If they switched it with the 911 with R8, the 911 would've put the Vette to shame.

Wait, that is an actual Youtube comment ? If they're going to pick at an American car for being traditionnal, the C7 is a bad choice.

What? Oppo = Handling. That's how all the race cars race, right?
![]() 02/10/2014 at 19:40 |

Big, brash, loud, fast, and a tire-shredder ? Plus a proper manual gearbox ? I see no reason for Clarkson not to like it (he did praise the C6 a lot on the American road trip episode, remember).
![]() 02/10/2014 at 19:42 |

Yeah, it was not a well thought out comparison. But, we have it so we have to deal with it.

He also completely recanted all of his praise and ripped the ZR1 a new one in it's comparison test against the R8 when he took it back to their power laps track. I also remember that. It beat the R8 handily at power laps, but he scoffed that only a previous racing driver could do get those times out of such a poorly handling car.

How? Easy. Our cars are affordable.
You throw a rock in the USA and you can hit somebody with a Vette. I was in big cities in Germany for two weeks and I only saw 3 Porsches and 1 GT-R. I was actively looking, too.
Go ahead and dump all that money into technology that 99% of your population will never own. Enjoy your Vespas and 1.0L diesels.

They think it's like:
Porsche: Our new 911 has a lot of technology. PDK, PTV, PDLS and a crapload of acronyms starting with "p". Everything is built on aluminum, carbon fiber, adamantiun and unobtanium.
GM: Here, have a V8 and some cheap plastic. 'Merica, fuck yeah!
Stupid YouTube commenters...

Don't worry, Hammond the undercover American will be there to defend the 'Vette.

911 and R8 are still a stupid comparison.

"Those dickheads who think anything not British is crap."
Uhm, what? Nobody thinks this. All the "lol pushrods and leaf springs" types are obsessed with anything German. They give McLaren crap for being "too anal and soulless", Jaguar for making "overweight rubbish" like the F-Type and XKR and never stop mocking the build quality of anything Lotus do.
People who like British cars in Britain are a rarity beyond the Range Rover-as-a-status-symbol crowd and old beardy classic car enthusiasts.

They've been pretty complimentary about the corvette in the past, save for the comment that it's a bit "vulgar" (which it is, by English standards, I suppose), that the interior was not really in the same league as the competitors (everyone has said that as long as I can remember, even American magazines would talk about the parts-bin switches off of Suburbans etc.), and that the ones that handles best on the track were pretty brutal on regular roads.
I think a number of those criticisms are no longer valid. It should be interesting to see the reaction... are they going to drive it this season?
